Julia Stein has 25 years of expertise in the licensing and retail industries ranging from overseeing the worldwide merchandising for the highest grossing science fiction property of all time to developing fashion and couture brands.
Ms. Stein’s retail career began with the fashion specialty store chain, I Magnin and the junior iconic clothing brand, Espirit. Julia’s expertise includes retail management, buying, product development, fashion forecasting, and store planning.
Julia Stein seamlessly segued from the fashion universe to a galaxy far, far away. Ms. Stein became Director of Merchandising for LucasFilm where she flourished over a twelve year period and was integral to the success of some of the most seminal theatrical merchandising franchises in entertainment history. Ms. Stein was responsible for overseeing the worldwide product development from concept to final production on a myriad of properties ranging from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Saturday Night Live, Wayne’s World, Sierra Club, and Cosmopolitan Magazine to the Grateful Dead. She also served as a creative director, producing comprehensive style guides, and packaging retail displays and marketing materials. In addition, she was the producer of all multimedia events held at Lucasfilm Licensing.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1998, Ms. Stein continued to serve Lucasfilm as a part-time creative and business consultant until January 2000. Her duties included advising and overseeing the merchandising of the Star Wars Fan Club retail website and catalog. Ms. Stein was also responsible for overseeing the worldwide development and execution of all Star Wars: Episode I retail and promotional merchandise.
Ms. Stein is the co-founder of The Grove Licensing & Design Corp. and serves as its president. As a creative consultant, procurer of licenses, and merchandiser for her clients, she works with the following studios: Disney, Sony, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., Lucasfilm, DreamWorks, Fox, Mattel, Saban and Marvel. Ms. Stein has developed art concepts and retail presentations for such high profile brands as Coca Cola, Kelloggs, Ford, Hot Wheels, and Budweiser.
In 2007, Julia co-founded Organically Grown Group, which purchased Organically Grown, a $100 million brand in the 1970's-80's. The brand has been re-launched as a 100% certified organic cotton lifestyle brand online.
RSA solicited Julia’s expertise to help oversee the Stand up to Cancer Licensing / Merchandising program. Her responsibilities include overseeing all e-commerce, promotional and licensing needs as well as branding, art direction and product development.
